Dr. Simon (Kevin M. Simon, MD, MPH), is Boston’s inaugural Chief Behavioral Health Officer, appointed by Mayor Michelle Wu. In this role, he leads public health strategies to address the city’s evolving mental health needs through the Boston Public Health Commission. Dr. Simon is a triple board-certified psychiatrist, specifically in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Adult Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine, and serves as the Director of the Justice Clinic within the Division of Addiction Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. He specializes in caring for youth involved with systems of care, such as DCF, DYS, and DMH. Dr. Simon is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. A recent Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Health Policy through Harvard University, he also serves as a medical director of a community behavioral health agency. His research on structural violence and health disparities earned him a National Institute of Health (NIH) Career Development “K” Award. Dr. Simon regularly consults with federal agencies and has published widely on health equity in notable journals, including the American Journal of Public Health and the New England Journal of Medicine. His insights are regularly featured in national media outlets like NPR and NBC.
