David A. Lewis Sr. is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor 1 (LADC 1). David is the Co-Founder and Clinical Director of The African Diaspora Mental Health Association (ADMHA) opened in March of 2018. ADMHA is an Outpatient Mental Health Clinic which provides behavioral health and educational services to ALL PEOPLE in the Greater Springfield and surrounding areas, specializing in clinical interventions which address the unique, culturally specific stressors which effect African Americans and Others of the African Diaspora.
David was previously employed at Valley Psychiatric Service from 2001 to 2016. Prior to VPSI David provided counseling for relapse prevention and recovery support services for individuals at risk for HIV/AIDS as a Community Health Outreach Worker for Northern Educational Services. David has 20 years of experience working with individuals, families and groups recovering from Alcohol/Other Drugs, Dual Diagnosis and Psychotherapy. David earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Springfield College School of Human Service and his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the Springfield College School of Social Work. David also completed the Addictions Counselor Education Certificate Program at Westfield State University. David passed the IC&RC (International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium) exam and the ASWB (Association of Social Work Boards) Clinical exam.
David was previously employed as the Executive Director of Faith Unlimited Institute Inc. (FUI) from 6/2011 – 4/2018. Faith Unlimited Institute Inc. was a faith-based community organization dedicated to helping men/women returning home from incarceration to reintegrate themselves back into family/community life and individuals seeking recovery from alcohol/other drug addictions through innovative programs. David is a CCAR trained Recovery Coach/Recovery Coach Trainer and started the Recovery Coach Program at FUI which became the first organization to successfully implement Recovery Coaching in Western Massachusetts. David also Co-facilitated the first MA/DPH/BSAS Recovery Coach Academy Training in Western Ma. In August of 2012. Other professional trainings include Cultural Competence, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome (PTSS) and Intense Implicit Bias.
